EXHIBITION TEXT:
I created this piece by being inspired by Matisse and Chardin and at the same time by being influence by the art movements of fauvism and realism. Which how they emphasis the meaning behind the pieces that are from the real world and their other meaning that they have to describe actions and things around us, as nature.
Artist Inspiration
The artist that inspired me were Chardin and Matisse, they were my inspiration for this project because of how they were artist that had a lot of experience about the development of the still life's and they use it daily. Also this two artist have very unique techniques, which were very particular by the art movement they were basing their art work from. As how Matisse was going for more fauvism looking the objects that he was elaborating (with oil on canvas) were non naturalistic and not as real looking. As he wanted to shoe his dreams and a unrealistic world which made the idea that all was possible. In the other hand, Chardin, develop his art work (oil in canvas as well) with a more realistic looking, as like he wanted to show the real world to the people that look at his work.
Art movement Inspiration
FAUVISM
How the non-naturalistic view of a normal day, and the addition of expressionistic vivid movements throughout each one of the paintings, elaborated a connection with the artist view about the world, his own feelings and that he wanted to demonstrate. So by this this art movement is significant to my piece because of I was able to show many of the features that were connected to the world and transmit my feelings and point of view about the different types of cultures that surround us, each and everyday day with their different types of characteristics that makes us think more about them. |
REALISM
Hoe in many of the artworks by Chardin, there was a more realistic feeling towards what he wanted to express and say through his pieces than Matisse. This is because Matisse artworks weren't not as realistic as Chardin's one's because of the non-natural movement and development of the objects in the art pieces were necessary the specific form of the object. However both with a different style and point if view of what is really realism, elaborated a great work showing the realism in the world. By this I was inspired to make my pieces for the art project more realistic and other not as much realistic, so that it could have the artist movements and characteristics on what and they were able to develop it and show what is the meaning behind their art piece, as I was able to do at the end. |

CULTURE INSPIRATION
WORLD CULTURE:
I was inspired by world culture, because of the different Still Life's that I was able to develop, I was able to demonstrated and apply some of the different kinds of culture that are around the world. Therefore, the elaborated pieces for this project are showing the Indian culture, the Colombian culture, the American culture, the Chinese culture, and the Puertorican culture. At the same time, I connected with the artist because they also demonstrate in their art pieces their own culture and express they're own customs in them at the same time, to share it with the world and make the viewer analyze the artist culture and their own culture too. |
Materials
SKETCHES
PROCESS
- I began by going through the different types of things that were around my house that brought my attention. Also, for this project I got to use different types of drawing pencils which give me a good help to develop the shadow on the different types of of things that were made as still life's and at the same time the details for each of the drawings, which some of them were very small or that were a big part of how the object look like.
- Then, I began to draw the first object that was three paper flowers that were blue, red and yellow, which I organize to make sure I could see very well the different pedals of each of the flowers.
- Later, I draw a light house, and the I elaborate a "Chiva", which is a typical car from my country, which is use in many of the festivals and carnivals during the year.
- Then from the kitchen, I was able to grab a little tea set, which I draw.
- Also, I grab a metal fish like figure, that I was able to develop and later I was able to create another porcelain piece which had other type of style than the first porcelain tea set.
- At the same time, I saw in my bedroom this flower type of thing that grab my attention, which I then draw, under a light to see better the different types of details of the piece that I was elaborating.
- Also, from the house of a friend I was able to develop a still life from some of the flowers that were at her house, and that were kind of weird looking to see, so by it, I was able to develop those type of flowers.
- Later I was creating two different still life, which were base from a metal elephant that had many types of interesting designs in the body and the I was able to develop a pair of earnings, which had tricky but at the same time interesting designs which made it fun to draw.
- Finally I took a ring and an old camera which were old looking things, that also grab my attention to develop because of how this two things show the realism art movement.
CHALLENGES AND ADVANTAGES
CHALLENGES:
One of the fist challenges that I got was what type of project I was going to develop because I had too many ideas in my mind, which I didn't know what to choose. Then, it was the decision, if I was going to do the art portraits or the still life which I found that either of them was a really good project because of how I was able to develop nice meaning behind the pieces that I was going to elaborate and at the same time, the detail and the technique that I was going to use. Also, another challenge that I face was, what kind of objects, if flowers, books or statues. So by I was dealing with all the things that I need to draw and how much time I was going to spend doing them. Another challenge that I face was the different types of shadows and how to use the pencils that I bought to create those kind of shadows, of the object that I was elaborating and how I was going to complete it with them on time. At the same time, I face another challenge, that was the different types of details in the different objects that I was using, because many of them were kind of hard to do, and sometimes I needed to start over again because I didn't like how was being show through the process of making it as a still life. The last challenge that I face was that I was trying to draw a little turtle statue, but I didn't start good and the shape that I was developing, I thought wasn't good so I erased and change the object, and start all over again because of it. |
.ADVANTAGES:
One advantage was that I was able to choose the first object that I was going to elaborate pretty fast because, for the project I first had in mind to draw all types of flowers for the still life (summer project), so I saw some fake flowers in my bedroom and then I decided to choose them to draw the and make them part of my still life project. Another type of advantage that I went through was how I wasn't expecting to elaborate good detail techniques on the small parts of the different objects (which I use to develop my still life project), that I was able to use. Also, another advantage that I face was how I was creating at first the objects, because at first by doing all the different types of shapes, that I had elaborated at the beginning to began creating the whole shape was a pretty good start on developing all the objects. Also throughout the process I also got to understand better the techniques that I need it to use with the pencils, which were the one's that help me to elaborate the lines and at the same time the different colors of shades that the object would, by being expose to light or darkness. At the end, I didn't expect also to see the good detail and the use of shadow in the different art pieces and the way they look at the end, that I think they look kind of good to be part of the still life project. |
THE MEANING OF MY PIECE
The meaning behind my piece is, how in the most normal things that we see surrounding us there are many types of meanings behind those type of objects, that many times we as people include them in our daily lives, and we work with those meaning and sometimes we make those meanings be our own actions. As how I elaborated a still life of some earnings, they can mean two things, one is that symbolizes beauty and the other one is that because it is close to the ear, we think it as like a secret. Because of how through our earnings there can be comments, ideas, and suggestions going through them every single moment. So many of the object of the still life project have a double interpretation of what they are and what their really mean, and how their meaning is being interpreted by people.
REFLECTION
I was able to accomplish the different types of drawings that I was able to elaborate for the summer project, by how I was surrounded of many types of things which catch my attention because of how those objects had very specific details that made the objects kind of unique. At the same time, the objects were part of different cultures and that also grab my attention to determine at the end all of the objects that at the end I was going to develop for the project. In addition, the research that I made before drawing was a good idea because of how I got inspire by different art pieces and at the same time I got inspired by other artist as Matisse and Chardin. Also there where time which I struggle to draw and object, so then I decided to change the object and start again which was kind of challenging but the second try was better than the first try developing the still life's. I was also given many suggestions from other people which got me better at doing and elaborating my summer project.
ACT QUESTIONS
1. The relationship between my inspirations and my artwork, were the demonstration of the identity which were elaborated through each part of the piece. Which affect my piece to be more created with personal things and at the same time with things that show part of my culture and who I am, as how Matisse and Chardin do on their artwork.
2. The overall point of view by the authors from the elaborated research, were that they were trying to reflect on simple things as a window, a boat, and a couple of different fruits. Which later they would give a more meaningful meaning, that would have different types of point of view depending on the things as culture, feelings, and characteristics that they wanted to show. So by it, regarding my inspiration, it shows how normal things as an sculpture or earrings can have multiple meanings base on the viewer and what the artist wanted to express.
3. The generalizations and conclusions that I discovered were, that people try to be more attach to their emotional and material things because they mean something important to them as time passes. Also by analyzing the inspirations that I choose, the ideas of a culture depends of how people view it and apply it in their life and show it to the world, as how Matisse and Chardin did through their paintings. They show part of who they were and part of their own culture.
4. My central idea for my inspirational research was the world culture, because I wanted to show the beauty of each culture around the world. Also that how my main idea give me the interest to research about the customs, which are interesting and very creative demonstrating the amazing things that each of the cultures have in common and their uniqueness.
5. The conclusion that I reach base on reading the research that I elaborated for the still life part for my summer project, was that behind each of the development, for each of the artworks made by the artists (Matisse & Chardin), there was a connection between both on them regarding their expressions. In the research, I encounter information that was related to each of the artists, that were about the inspirations, what they wanted to demonstrate, point of view, and art movements, which this characteristics from both. So I concluded that both artist were connected because of their illustration about a typical day in a life of a person and how significant regular things are to daily life.
