ARTIST INSPIRATION
The artist that inspired me were Salvador Dali and Roy Lichtenstein because of how capable they were to introduce their own thoughts, their ideas, their dreams, their own inspirations whether they came from other artist, their own society and their surroundings into their own paintings. So that's why, their own paintings are inspirations for other. For the realism that they put either in a surrealism painting or in a pop art painting that make us dream big. At the same time how they are able to apply into their art works different kinds of techniques, as oil or acrylic paintings into their art works. Also the use of many different ways of using their brushes to create different kinds of figures, perspectives, lights and dark spaces that are very visible in their paintings. In addition, their own use of art movements that represented a culture for them, a culture that they were comfortable in because of the diverse society that they were living base own their surroundings and other inspirational art movements from around the world.
ART MOVEMENT INSPIRATION
ART WORK INSPIRATION
CULTURE INSPIRATION
Cultural diversity
I was inspired by the cultural diversity because of the exposure that I normally go through the different cultures around my community and my school. Also I know that I am from just one culture but is not that one culture that makes me who I am, and who I am becoming. I am able to be expose to a multiple variety of cultures that make me learn about everything and make the person who I am right now. |
MATERIALS
SKETCHES
PROCESS
1. I took two stretcher of 30.48 cm x 91.44 cm and one of 15.24 cm x 45.72 cm and I put them together to form three different
canvasses to develop my three different paintings.
2. Then I took the raw cotton and then I staple it to the stretchers and then I use a hammer to secure them very well.
3. Later I took gesso and spread it all over the raw cotton that cover the canvas, on the three different canvasses.
4. After the gesso on the canvas had dry completely, I began painting each background with a different color, one was light blue, another one green and the last one yellow, blue and red.
CHANGES: After I had completed the sketches and the styles that I wanted to elaborate in my paintings, I began to change a little bit my ideas about the colors. So from the three of them, I change one orange and the other one I made it a little bit more smaller and one side I painted it black and the other one with warm color and other light ones, as yellow, orange, green and red.
5. On the first painting I elaborated different types of colors to develop a city, and also the color of my eye as well to reflect the city and how I view it.
6. On the first painting I was inspired by the pop art movement, I demonstrated this art movement by outlining the different types of building on the city that I elaborated. As well making it more cartoonist.
7. On my second painting, I began elaborating two different sides, one was black as representing the night and the other side with colorful colors representing the day.
8. On the middle of the painting I draw a moon that had the colors of the flag of my country and as well part of one side of my face on the second painting.
9. On the third and my last painting, first I began by elaborating a big flower with multiple petals and I paint them with different kinds of color. At the same time on the petals I made some highlights.
10. On the middle of the flower I created a circle were I painted the Colombian flag again, and then I added other type of flags representing other countries, but also other types of cultures. As the Italian flag, the Brazilian flag, the Nicaraguan flag and the United States flag.
11. Then on the bottom of the flower, I elaborated a body with a blue and kind of greenish look color dress that had the face cover with the flower as representing the influence of different types of cultures in a person.

CHALLENGES AND ADVANTAGES
CHALLENGES:
I think the first challenge that I face was what I wanted to do, what I really wanted to transmit with my painting. Other would be how I began sketching on my canvas and just adding a lot of figures, lines ans shapes than then were a little bit hard to finish doing it. As well when I was outlining the different building on my first canvas, that was kind of hard because of the little space that I elaborated between the different figures. Then before starting the second canvas I got into a little accident and I had my second canvas broken, so I develop kind off the whole process again and after it I change the color all over again. After that in the third painting, I had trouble doing the color of the skin because at first the painting turn out to be grey, then I was adding a little bit of more red but then it turn pink and after a while I got a good color on top of all the colors that I added to the painting. Also when I was elaborating the colors for the dress, I wanted to make a color between the color blue and the color green but it was a little bit hard to develop and on the bottom of the dress, I elaborated a more lighter color that was a little bit hard to obtain every time I run out of it while painting the dress and also all the highlights. |
ADVANTAGES:
I think the advantages that I got through the whole development of my three different pieces were, how I was able to finish them kind of quickly and get the ideas to put on the canvas and make something that would have a little bit of me on it. At the same time how I was able to connect the different types of aspects of the different types of art movements into the three different pieces and also being inspired by other types of pieces made by other incredible artist that inspired my to develop my paintings. Other type of advantage that I face was how I was able to learn more techniques and ways to mix the paintings that I was using. Also the different ways that I got to express my culture, my society, my community, and how are they inspiring to develop new things and to improve as a person. |
THE MEANING BEHIND MY PIECE
The meaning of my piece is how I am able to characterize my self with city that I am living. How I do view the city and how in my painting I am ably to demonstrate my own perspective. At the same time how I represent my self as Colombian and in another painting, I develop different flags representing different countries, as representing diverse cultures that had inspired me throughout my entire life. The cultures are a way for me to view myself as something better and that I can little by little improve it in each of the steps that I take in my life. In addition, the three different artworks represent how the city of Milwaukee has being a remarkable change in my life and me as a person because of its own culture and the cultures around that form the city that by how the time pass I am more able to identify myself and consider that I making great achievements about myself and the people that surrounds me. However, the painting is also telling a story that by each person that would look at it would have a different beginning and ending, base in our pwn perspective and view about the world and how we view us, as the people that we are.
REFLECTION
Base in the different types of comments, research, ideas, questions, and thoughts that I had about different topics that surrounded my mind about the topics that I wanted to elaborate in the three canvasses for this projects at the beginning was kind of hard because of the way I could not identify with anything around me and neither something that inspired me towards my achievement to complete this art piece. That I think that at the end the art work tells a story, how it reflects a little part of a diverse cultures that I have being surrounded a while ego. Also, how the comments of my friends, my teachers, my family were reflected into my ideas and at the same time how I was able to develop to sketch on the canvas pretty quickly because of all the support that I got from them. However, the piece had many challenges and many advantages as well because of how the paintings were going to be and the colors that they were going to contain but I think at the end I ended up to like more than in the beginning and by just looking at it. I am able to see myself in the painting and how happy I am to demonstrate that each culture is something beautiful and insteresting to learn and go through.
