STUDIO # 5
TITLE: Colorful Life
MEDIUM: Wood, acrylic painting, hot glue SIZE: 34 cm X 12 cm DECEMBER 2016 EXHIBIT TEXT: Through the development of this piece I was inspired by the colorful and amazing indian culture which had me inspired by Salvador Dali and the surrealist movement to end up with the non focus of the true value of life and how we need to enjoy it. |
Artist Inspiration
I was inspired by Slavador Dali because throughout the development of my art piece which emphasizes artisan culture, which is base on dreams, memories, and imagination and a lot of colors. By this I was inspired by three artists which had distinct types of techniques and art movements that they all used in their art pieces, along the way of their elaboration. The first artist that inspired me was Salvador Dali, because of his daydreaming paintings. Dali had demonstrated through his paintings of the importance of imagination and dreams that has applied to our own perspective and were transmitted through his art work. Therefore, most of his art pieces came from the use of futurism, cubism, surrealism , and also to promote courageous meanings through his work.
Art Movement Inspiration
Surrealism
I decided to use and apply the art movement of surrealism towards this art piece in particular. For this piece I wanted to show the true colors of life and its uniqueness throughout the development of this piece. Which demonstrates a little part of the Indian culture behind each design that was made specific from the culture itself. Although, through this piece I also wanted to use Salvador Dali techniques and his day dreaming usage throughout his paintings. This is because of how the elephant is not seen that often anymore more from I have seen this years, but not in a lot of variety. So I just wanted to develop one that could demonstrate and be able to identify the importance of what the elephant symbolizes and means to people and to the world itself. |
Artwork Inspiration
Culture Inspiration
Indian Culture
In the research that I had to elaborate for the development of this piece, I was able to encounter the Indian culture and from which I was inspired by to create this particular art project. All the different types of colors, foods, vestivities, decorations, animals, and the culture as a whole made me be inspired by other types of artists and art movements that made also a contribution towards the development of this work. The decorations that some are base in elephants and the beauty in also catch my attention to elaborate this piece. |
Planning
During the initiation of this project, I first did some sketches to develop ideas that could be part of my final piece. Also how I elaborated different types of designs that, I would be able to mix up for a final development of them into my own work.
|
As well, as for the usage of the hot glue gun I needed it to practice at first with it in a different place, as in a paper. Where I would elaborate different types of lines and designs, which would be a good practice for when I go and apply he hot glue into the wood.
Process
Throughout the development of this art piece, there were many parts on its development that was kind of challenging but also very fun and entertaining to do. Throughout the process of development, the first part was finding a piece of wood in my backyard, because in that piece of wood, I was going to elaborate my final project in it. Then I would take white painting and in one of the faces of the wood. Then with a pencil I outline the sketch that I wanted to express this time on the wood. Then with a hot glue gun I outline the whole figure of the elephant and then with different brighter colors, I added color inside the hot glue spots. As well when I added all the colors to the piece, then I took white painiting and painted over the lines of glue that outline the elephant to highlight more the different colors added to the piece. After letting it dry, I took black painting and put it as the background colors for this piece to emphasize more the bright and the white colors in the main piece.

Sketches
Challenges and Advantages
CHALLENGES:
One of my challenges were the sketching into the wood because of the surface and also putting the hot glue was a little bit too hard because of the management of the hot glue gun and outline the drawing that was already on the wood. The use of the hot glue gun to elborate the different types of designs and lines that were inside the elephant. As well as the coloring the lines because it was hard not to cover other parts that were near to the part that I was painting. The application of colors that I elaborated let me think that I needed to change, so in ther futur if I can change it, I will use couple of colors and not a lot because the true figure of the elephant cannot be seen that much. |
ADVANTAGES:
One advantage was putting the painting inside the glue places and applying it in the canvas as well. Adding bright colors to highlight the little and non usual details that the piece had. Some of the details, that were the bigger details in the piece were easier to to for me, because with the brush that I was using (and the finest one that I was able to find) I didnt make a lot of great lines and neithe good application of the color into the piece. |
The Meaning behin My Piece
The meaning behind my piece if the way people enjoy and sees life, how sometimes people don't see the beauty on themselves or either they life because the time which comes so quickly takes out the true value of life and the true special things that they need to accept and incorporate in themselves and into their life as well.
Reflection
In the development of my piece I went to not know what I wanted to elaborate and to express, but by searching and hearing different commentaries by either my family or my peers I was able to elaborate this particular piece. For me at first seem a little bit too challenging because drawing an elefant is a very hard work to do but at the end I was able to created and add color to it to maked express the beauty of the indian culture and to reflect on how this particular culture has pretty amazing things to share with the world. At the same time how I wanted to express throughout it the time that we expend thinkiing about ourselfs and how we need to take action on the things that are really imporant and the onces that are not.
